Private K-12 schools require a certain quality when it comes to food service. One aspect that GKM takes into utmost consideration is how we write our menus. Our menus are carefully crafted by a team of professionals, and they are carefully adjusted to suit the particular needs or desires of the facility we are catering to.
The U.S. National Library of Medicine estimates that about 65% of the human population has a reduced ability to digest lactose after infancy (1). It is becoming increasingly common to replace cow’s milk with different milks - coconut milk, almond milk, and oat milk, to name a few.
Going to boarding school as a boarder is an exciting, albeit nerve wracking, experience. Parents of boarders stress the importance of their children staying as healthy as possible during their time away from home, and it can be a difficult task if the boarding school does not contract a food service management company who has the best interest of everyone that is affected by service.
Some prominent memories are created for students attending four-year colleges in the dining hall. It’s where students are able to come together before or after a long day of class and feel included with diverse menus. Providing a safe environment where students feel welcome is not only the job of the college itself, but also of the food service management company. We at GKM are prepared to give some insight as to how we do just that.
Some schools are starting back up in the coming fall, and it is important, not only as a food service management company, but as human beings, to provide the same quality food service while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19. We want to focus on making our two and four year college diners feel at ease in the presence of our dining facilities.
The secret is out - offering promotional events at any college dining center is a fun, exciting way to keep students captivated and excited about their school’s dining experience. This is especially true for two-year colleges. Dining centers at two-year colleges can be avoided due to the majority of students being commuters; thus, they are more likely to quickly stop for food on their way to or from classes. Offering fun events following a consistent, frequent schedule helps students to feel more involved and familiarized with their dining center as a whole. GKM is dedicated to providing fun experiences for students and faculty alike.
Contracting with an accommodating food service management company is a crucial step in providing students with a great day-to-day experience; however, this is especially true in boarding schools. Community colleges' dining halls need to have ways for their students to be able to incorporate their feedback to know that their input is valued.
It has been ingrained in our minds from a young age that eating a healthy breakfast before taking a test has proven to increase test scores. In fact, several research studies show that eating consistently healthy meals improves memory, focus, and alertness. This should apply to all meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks students are consuming. Providing your students with the nutrients they need to perform their best is a win/win for everybody involved.
In these defining times that we are existing in with COVID being a continuing threat to our population, behavioral health facilities face a large task at hand: how can you make ordering and receiving food as safe as possible for those in recovery?
It can be a difficult challenge to please everyone and remain culturally diverse when feeding students enrolled at a boarding school. This is because of the vast countries and cultures that most boarding schools tend to represent and/or house.
