Going to boarding school as a boarder is an exciting, albeit nerve wracking, experience. Parents of boarders stress the importance of their children staying as healthy as possible during their time away from home, and it can be a difficult task if the boarding school does not contract a food service management company who has the best interest of everyone that is affected by service. We at GKM have compiled a list of simple steps that we enact to keep boarders satisfied and healthy, thus keeping parents and staff at ease, as well as keeping the boarding school’s operation running as smoothly as possible. 1. Using Fresh Ingredients What exactly is going into the food that is being served should not be kept a secret, which is why we use fresh ingredients. Transparency and healthy ingredients are of the utmost importance when serving food. 2. Providing Ample OptionsWe cannot stress the importance of providing options for all diners enough. Boarders attending boarding school have most of their meals from the dining center, so there needs to be options for any and all intolerances/allergies/preferences. 3. No Energy DrinksMost boarding schools request no energy drinks due to the high levels of sugar and caffeine, and that is a desire we take seriously. If it is not desired and will make both educators and parents feel more comfortable, we always oblige. These are just three small steps GKM practices, but the list could go on and on!
